What kind of videos is it for?

Anything where you talk to the camera: YouTube videos, lessons, podcasts and screen demos. It is not built for music videos or multicam edits.

Does it work with Final Cut Pro?

Yes, it is built for it. RoughCut exports a frame-accurate FCPXML timeline linked to your original media, so nothing is re-rendered. The same file opens in DaVinci Resolve; Premiere Pro needs a conversion step.

Does my video leave my Mac?

Not by default. Transcription runs on your Mac. The optional AI pass sends only text (your transcript and any goal you type) to the OpenAI, Gemini or Claude account you connect, never to RoughCut. If you choose Pro Cloud Transcription for a job, that job's audio goes directly to OpenAI with your key.

Do I need an AI key?

Only for the AI pass that finds false starts, retakes, tangents and filler. You add your own OpenAI, Gemini or Claude key, and your provider bills you for what you use. On-device transcription and silence cutting work without one.

What does it cost?

Your first five complete rough cuts are free, with every Pro feature. After that, a one-time purchase unlocks RoughCut for good. RoughCut Pro is an optional monthly or yearly subscription for extras such as Smart Silence and Second Look. The App Store shows the price for your region.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later), macOS 26.5 or later, and about 2 GB of free space for the on-device speech model. The interface and transcription are built for English and Arabic.
